Purpose: Watersports and Family Fun

Max People: 13 People

Fuel Capasity: 48 Gallons

Our Comments: We love this family friendly machine. It is willing to tackle anything that you put it through. People usually have to decide if they want to buy a boat that creates a huge wakeboard wake, or a boat the creates an awesome slalom wake. Little do people know that it is possible to have both and then some with this boat. The 21 VLX allows you to have the most fun on the water no matter what sport you are into. One moment you can fill all the ballasts and plug and plays so you can go big on a wakeboard, the next you can drop the speed and engage Surf Gate and surf on either sides by just the touch of a button. Furthermore, you can drain the tanks and crank the speed to 30 mph and tear down the slalom course. The VLX is one of the best driving Malibus and also offers tons of room for you and 12 of your closest friends. Come in today and see why our 21 VLX is the perfect boat for you and your family! It is by far the best “Bang for your Buck” in this industry!

Raimi Hyperlite shoot
One of these such athletes, Raimi Merritt, is hard at work getting ready for a summer full of competitions and events. Raimi has established herself as one of the best women wakeboarders in the world, but no matter her celebrity status and fame, she remains grounded and is one of the nicest people you could ever have a conversation with. She keeps her friends close and family closer. Enjoy our exclusive interview with Raimi as we find out a little about her and her plans for Memorial Day.

Q: What is your favorite part about spending a warm summer holiday out on the lake with friends and family? Do you have any plans for Memorial Day this year?

A: My favorite part is being able to make memories with the people you love and enjoy spending time with. I grew up on the lake and spending time with my family skiing and wake boarding, so I love being able to continue to do that throughout my life. I will be competing in the Nautique Masters this Memorial Day weekend!

Q: When did you start wakeboarding? Who was your biggest influence while learning how to ride?

A: I started wake boarding at the age of 9. My dad was definitely my biggest influence because he introduced me into wake boarding and was my drive and encouragement throughout my learning process. He also was a professional barefoot waterskier, so I wanted to follow his footsteps.

Q: With the Maiden being one of the best all around boards that we have seen, what would you tell a girl who is thinking about a new board but is not quite sure what to get? In your words why is your board a cut above the rest, but yet friendly for anyone to use?

A: All of the womens boards on the hyperlite line are made specially for women riders, which is one of the main reasons the maiden is such a great board to ride. My favorite part of the maiden board is the continuous rocker, which allows me to have a consistent edge up and through the wake and it also gives me the ability to have a big pop! The Brighton system boots that are a part of the maiden series and the only womens system boots out are also awesome because they have great ankle support and include the BOA system that helps fit to any ankle. On top of all the great technical stuff the maiden series LOOKS AWESOME & FUN!

Q: Everyone we talk to has their favorite location to take their friends and family out on the lake, where would you say your favorite place to ride is?

A: I would have to say my backyard here in Orlando, fl on Lake Conway!

Q:What do you see in your future in wakeboarding? How do you want to be remembered?

A: I see my riding to continue progressing and competing. I want to be remembered all around from my personality to my riding. The more I ride the more I learn and make my own style and that is a huge reason why I love wake boarding because I can do stuff in my own way.

Learn a Trick with Raimi.

Imagine being on the boat with Raimi Merritt. You have your boots strapped on and ready to hit the water. As a beginner, you are a little nervous, but you are excited to to get out there. You look up, and there you see Raimi, who tells you the secret of how to get better and more comfortable on your new Maiden. and the best trick to learn first on the water.

Raimi Merritt: First of all always have fun! Dont beat yourself up if you dont get something the first try because once you do get it, everything else becomes super easy. One of the best tricks to learn first is wake to wake jumps. The first invert I learned was a heel side backroll.

Enrique’s Malibu/Axis Factory Tour

This week we interviewed Enrique Martinez about his experience at the Malibu/Axis Factory.

Memphis Boat Center. Q.) First things first, was it worth the drive from Memphis?

Enrique Martinez. A.) What Drive? (Enrique chuckles) I honestly didn’t think anything of the drive. I left early in the morning and next thing i knew i was passing Nashville. I stopped for Fuel and next thing i know i was at the factory.  On the way back, my mind was racing the same way a kids mind races after leaving Disneyland while repeating “that was awesome!” over and over. I promise you wont even notice the drive.

Q.) What was your first impression of the factory?

A.) One word, Impressive!  It really is interesting seeing how much dedication each worker puts into each boat. It really impressed me how the majority if the building process focusses on quality control. The boats have to be perfect, if not, the factory will not release it.

Q.)  What was the biggest shocker during the tour.

A.) Usually when you think of engineers, you think of people behind a computer doing research and development.  What amazed me about the Malibu engineers is that they are at each station of the factory making sure things are being build properly, testing, researching, and figuring out ways to make the boat better each day. The team of 12 engineers have developed the best boats in the industry hands down.

Q.) Can you describe the feeling of walking through the plant?

A.)  I guess  the best way to describe the feeling is to compare it to the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The whole time i was dumbstruck and in awe by every station of the building process.  Suddenly you are hit with a strong urge to touch all the boats and call them “my precious”, when suddenly you remember that the tour guide is in the middle of explaining to you something and you wondered off in daydreams. You then compose yourself, wipe off the drool, and keep learning about the building process. Image

Q.) What was it like to see the new 22MXZ for the first time?

A.) Man, i had to play it cool, specially since there was a ton of people around. I had to sign for the boat and get all the paper work, so on the outside i looked pretty normal. On the inside, well that is a completely different story. My mind was like a Michael Jackson music video hyped up on energy drinks. There was some moon walking, loud high pitched screams, ton of jumping up and down, doing the splits (i pictured Jimmy Fallon doing the splits and completely failing), and even some Thriller action. My face still hurts from smiling so much.

Q.) Would you recommend the tour to anyone looking for a new boat?

A.) Yes! If you ever have the chance to take a weekend trip to the Knoxville area, stopping at the Malibu factory for a tour is a must! You will never see boats the same way!

1. 2014 Malibu 23 LSV. It is no shock that our favorite boat is hands down the 23 LSV. This boat has been the best selling boat in its class, so when we heard that Malibu was going to complete re-design its flag ship boat we could only imagine what Malibu had hidden up their sleeve.  We thought to ourselves that it was going to be hard to make the best boat in the industry even better, but Malibu hit a grand slam with this beauty. this boat features a brand new innovative hull design that will boost your wakeboarding and wakesurfing experience to levels never thought possible. The 23 LSV delivers the perfect wake from the moment it first hits the water and is the boat of choice for Red Bulls number one wakeskater, Brian Grubb.
