Here at Memphis Boat Center we love the sport of wakeboarding. We love wakeboarding so much that we test each of the new board models that come through our doors, so when you come to Memphis Boat Center looking for a new shred stick you know exactly what you are getting! 2016 has been an incredible year for the sport of wakeboarding in terms of contests, the progression of riding, and the influence on youth culture. The progression of riding has pushed the progression of technology; making the wakeboards we ride today the most advanced water sticks on the market. Today, I have a review of the top boards we carry in the Memphis Boat Center pro shop for both men and women. Let’s kick things off with the gentlemen:

1. The Hyperlite Vagabond – designed by Trevor Maur

The newest addition to the Hyperlite family is the Vagabond, which made its debut this year. Designed by one of the most stylish riders in the game (Trevor Maur) this board is a perfect hybrid between the stability of the Murray and the fast, aggressive edging of the Marek. This board edges into the wake perfectly, and with a wide tip/tail it creates incredible pop. The tracking on this board is instantaneous, giving you optimal control over your heel/toe edge. If you want to send your tricks into the stratosphere but still save your knees, this is the board for you!

2. The Hyperlite Murray – designed by Shaun Murray

A timeless classic created by a timeless athlete, the 2016 Murray is one of our most popular boards that we carry. The Murray has taken on a new shape for 2016 but the design has proven to be the best one yet. The base is wider, allowing control throughout the board. The tip and tail store enough energy to send you to the moon, but the mellow transition through the rocker line give this board a very forgiving feeling. Don’t get it twisted, this board likes to play fast and loose with its edges, but once locked in the Murray will build the speed that you need to fly across the wake effortlessly just like Shaun. If you’re throwing down hammers or just want to learn a simple wake to wake jump, this board belongs on your boat!

3. The Hyperlite Franchise – designed by Jimmy LaRiche

The Franchise has become an iconic shape for Hyperlite, and being the product of one of their most iconic riders it backs up the superstar title. The Franchise combines a slightly wider base with fluid release off the wake, giving it incredible pop. Edging into the wake has never been so effortless, this board glides through the water like a knife through butter. The low profile design keeps the tail of the Franchise slightly lower in the water than most boards, but that does not stop this shape from breaking loose and giving you one of the best rides of your life. The landings are soft, and if you plan on going as large as Jimmy does go ahead and pick up the Franchise before your summer runs out!
