2016 Season Preview

It is 19 days into the year 2016 and some of us are already a full month behind. A new year conveys new routines, new opportunities, and my personal favorite: new boats. While it is still far too early to scrape ice off of your boat cover and brave Mother Nature’s double personality, there are plenty of exciting events leading up to your first day back on the water. The end of January and the entire month of February are full of boat season preparatory measures, and if you are not back in the water by early/middle March you’re doing something wrong with your watercraft.

The starting gun for the rat race that has become the Mid-South boating industry will be the 52nd Memphis Boat Show which is held at the Agricenter located near Shelby Farms. The event lasts the entirety of the February 19th weekend and will include nearly 80 suppliers, dealers, and vendors. The participating vendors will all be set up in booths throughout the agricenter, and everything from brand new wake boats to the latest and greatest in fishing tackle will be available for your viewing pleasure. If you are looking for more information about the boat show go check out their website, http://www.memphisboatshow.com.

2016 has also seen its fair share of surprises from the boating industry, especially in the performance category. Malibu has slowly but surely leaked photos of a serious mystery project, and just before the new year came flying through the front door they released the awe inspiring Malibu M235. The M235 is Malibu’s propulsion system that will hopefully carry their brand into the upper echelon of the performance wake boat industry. This boat is a combination of power, performance, and luxury, which is what Malibu has tried to promote with this new model. “This isn’t paw-paw’s ski Nautique,” said your wallet.

Memphis Boat Center might not have an M235 slapping you across the face when you walk through our doors, but we are LOADED with all of the latest water skis, wakeboards, and whatchamacallits 2016 has to offer. We have a bunch of crazy new items like the RAD and the FAD; both of which are endorsed by the wakeboarding legend Shaun Murray (so it has to be legit) as well as an incredible selection of 2016 Hyperlite, Slingshot, Byerly, and HO products that will have you ready for any adventure you decide to facilitate. Be sure you come on down to Memphis Boat Center to see what he have in store for 2016, and don’t forget to check us out at the Boat Show next month!

Ski Freeze and 2016

The year 2016 is in its adolescence and we are already itching to get back into the water. The month of December felt more like August, and the bone chilling temperatures that associate with a Memphis winter have not fully sunken their teeth into our wet suits just yet.  New Years Eve would be an early affair for many, but the dawning of January 1, 2016, would be rewarding for a multitude of ski junkies.

The Dream Factory of Memphis, behind an army of almost forty skiers, hosted the 39th annual Memphis Ski Freeze in our favorite Mud Island ski spot dubbed “The Ditch.” If you are familiar with Memphis Boat Center then you are familiar with The Ditch, and on New Years Day anyone with a screw loose in their head and a water ski could come participate in this southern take on the polar plunge.

Memphis Boat Center provided the boats for the event, and the money raised by spectator donations and skier participation went towards Brenan, a seventeen-year-old girl with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency or “The Bubble Boy” disease. Brenan has overcome many obstacles in her life, and the straight-A student hopes to one day work at St. Jude where she can give back to the people that helped save her life.

The event brought over two-hundred spectators to the Mud Island event site, and the donations peaked at over ten-thousand dollars with more still to come. The sun was shining and the boats were towing as the community got a freezing but fun jump on 2016. If you wish to learn more about Ski Freeze, visit their website below, and if you want to see how much fun they had watch the video recap created by our very own Enrique Martinez.

Happy New Year everyone! Let’s make 2016 one to remember!
